October 17, 2025
Severe combined immunodeficiency, also known as bubble boy disease, is a serious, inherited condition in which the immune system cannot fight even mild infections.
Symptoms include having respiratory infections often, poor growth and rashes.
Stem cell transplantation is the most common treatment. Enzyme replacement therapy and gene therapy are sometimes used for certain forms of this condition.
