5 Signs may suggest ovarian or cervical cancers

Ovarian and cervical cancers may be manifested with signs that could suggest any other gynecological condition rather than cancers. These signs usually need further clinical assessment and investigations. These signs include the following:

  1. Postmenopausal vaginal bleeding: doctors believe that any postmenopausal bleeding should be considered as endometrial or cervical cancers until prove otherwise.
  2. Abnormal vaginal bleeding during the fertility period: as we discussed in the previous point; any vaginal bleeding rather than menstruation may indicate ovarian cancer. Also post-coital bleeding could be an early sign for cervical cancer.
  3. Persistent pelvi-abdominal pain: this pain (in cases of ovarian cancer) is usually caused by bloating, cramps and pressure effect.
  4. Rapid change in body weight: rapid unexplained weight loss or weight gain in women could be a remarkable signs for cancer, especially ovarian cancer.
  5. Loss of appetite: ovarian cancer has a great effect on body metabolic rate, which in turn leads to loss of appetite and marked weight loss.
