Vaccination: safe or harmful?

Vaccination: safe or harmful?

Our immune system is responsible for protecting our bodies against any pathogen could cause infection, but some pathogens can overcome the immune system and cause serious health problems.

So vaccination is very important as it stimulates production of certain antibodies against these powerful pathogens, which promotes the overall functional capacity of the immune system.

Vaccines work by introducing what we can call "safe versions of the pathogens and microorganisms" which enhance the immune system and modify its functional mechanism to respond strongly if exposed to actual infection.

Vaccines are very safe, but some may experience mild temporary side effects after receiving the vaccine, such as:

  • Pain, redness and swelling at the side of injection.
  • Fever.
  • Fatigue.
  • Muscle weakness.

Some complications such as seizures or muscle paralysis could occur in the following cases:

  • Being allergic to the vaccine or one of its components.
  • Immunocompromised patients.
  • Being sick during vaccination.

Anyway, serious side effects or complications related vaccination are rare, but unvaccinated people are always at greater risk.
